BUCS 2025: Another Thrilling Year for Ashaway-Sponsored Badminton

BUCS 2025 saw another fantastic year of university badminton played at the highest level, with fierce competition and outstanding performances across the board. It was also a great tournament for Ashaway-sponsored players, who delivered impressive results throughout.

Loughborough’s Ben Jarvis, using his Ashaway gear, secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Doubles, capping off a strong campaign. Meanwhile, Nottingham’s Ashaway pairing of Sam Smith and Jacob Weekes put up a great fight, narrowly missing out on the quarter-finals to the tournament’s top seeds. Sam and Jacob both also reached the Mixed Doubles quarter-finals, with Jacob pairing alongside fellow Ashaway player Katherine Arksey, where they again put in strong performances before bowing out to the number 1 and 2 seeds, respectively.

In the Women’s Doubles, Katherine Arksey and UWS’s Toni Woods both reached the quarter-finals, demonstrating the strength of Ashaway’s sponsored talent. There was also a welcome return to the BUCS stage for former Women’s Singles Champion Katarina Vargova, who made her comeback after an extended injury layoff. In a tough draw, she faced off against Katherine in the second round of Women’s doubles, narrowly missing out.

Joe Scott also had an incredible run, battling through a series of intense matches to reach the quarter-finals, where he eventually fell to the number 2 seeds. A strong showing and a well-earned place among the tournament’s top players!

In the PARA BUCS Championships, Ashaway’s Finley Goode and his partner Rob Donald put in a dominant display to win gold, an incredible achievement that highlights both their talent and determination.

Finally, in the Men’s Singles, Warwick’s Parth Mehta, with Former Ashaway sponsor Nic Strange behind his court, was just one point away from a quarter-final finish, losing a nail-biting decider 23-21.
